When there is a successful business run by Asians, embedded in the very poor hood where 99% of the population are black, there is always the potential of robbery attempts. Such is the case of the fatal shooting of Paul Hookim in 1977 at the studio gate. This event almost brought the business to an end as the family grew frustrated and fearful of the neighborhood. However with the determination of the house band of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespear, they were encouraged to continue, along with protection from the dons of the community and a few cops.
Today the legacy of Channel One lives on in past lifetime hits and current productions.
