Since his release from prison in 2024, Vybz Kartel has been busy reconnecting with the music scene and gearing up for performances. He dropped a 12-track mixtape titled First Week Out, which includes collaborations with Squash and features music he recorded while incarcerated. This project marks his return to the dancehall world after 13 years in prison.

Kartel is also preparing for a number of high-profile performances. He has confirmed a major concert in Jamaica on December 31, 2024, which he described as "the biggest concert in Jamaica since Bob Marley." Additionally, he is set to perform at the Caribbean Music Festival in Barbados in 2025, his first performance on the island since being released.

Kartel has spoken about working with a personal trainer to stay in shape for his return to the stage and has expressed interest in future collaborations with international artists like Lil Wayne.
