Leon Thomas Talks Grammys and Life After Mutt

Leon Thomas Rewrote His Grammy-Winning Album Before Release

Fresh off earning his first Grammy for Mutt, Leon Thomas has revealed that the album fans now know almost didn’t exist in its current form.

During a recent Q&A session on Threads, the singer and songwriter shared that the project was originally developed under a completely different concept. The first version, titled Inventor, included 15 tracks that he ultimately decided did not represent him authentically.

According to Leon, he scrapped the entire body of work and rebuilt the album from scratch, this time centering it around the song “How Fast.” The creative reset allowed him to align the music more closely with his identity and artistic direction.

Taking Mutt on the Road

Leon is now preparing to bring the Grammy-winning project to international audiences. The European leg of his Mutts Don’t Heel Tour begins this week, marking a new chapter for the artist.

He shared that touring feels like a dream come true, especially knowing that his music is opening doors around the world. At the same time, he views the experience as a fresh start, with opportunities to connect with entirely new listeners and expand his fan base.

Stadium Stages With Bruno Mars

In addition to his own tour, Leon will also join Bruno Mars for The Romantic Tour, performing in stadiums across major markets.

He described the opportunity as both exciting and challenging. Performing for a broader audience means he may begin sets with a familiar cover before introducing crowds to his original music. Still, he sees it as a major blessing and a powerful platform to reach listeners who may be discovering him for the first time.

What’s Next?

Leon confirmed that new music is already in progress, hinting that his next album is currently being developed.

Beyond music, he shared that if he ever returned to acting, he would want to take on roles that allow deeper emotional range, stronger character development, and even new dialect work. And if music had not been his path? He says he could see himself in the tech world, potentially as a founder or serving in a chief marketing role.
